Burke Women's Fund

Burke Women's Fund

Operating under the auspices of the Community Foundation of Burke County, the Burke Women's Fund was created in 2009 by a group of 15 women. The Burke Women's Fund aspires to connect all parts of our community and to bring a diverse group of women together around substantive issues relating to women and families.

Annual Celebration Brunch, 10:00 am, February 25, 2012 (Go to invite)

The vision of the Burke Women's Fund is to:

  • advance the power of collective giving among Burke County women
  • empower women in meaningful and purposeful ways
  • gain a deeper understanding of the issues that affect women and families in our community
  • provide impactful financial support which improves the quality of life for all

Membership includes:

  • an investment of $365 a year - a dollar a day - for three years (of that amount, $35 will be devoted to a permanent endowment, $30 to administrative costs, and $300 to grants)
  • a vote on prospective grant recipients
  • an annual gathering to honor grant recipients and members
  • local educational programs

The focus of the grants includes self-sufficiency, health and safety, family issues, and community issues. To be eligible for a grant the applicant must be qualified as tax-exempt or as a tax-exempt fiscal sponsor, the organization must be located and provide services in Burke County, and the project should demonstrate the ability to achieve measurable results and have a high probability of successful continuation beyond the grant period. Applicants may not discriminate on the basis of age, race, national origin, ethnicity, gender, physical ability, sexual orientation, political affiliations or religious beliefs. Grants may not be used for capital and endowment campaigns, individual requests, religious or political purposes, fraternal organizations or underwriting for fund raising events.

The Grants Committee of the Burke Women's Fund will:

  • Advertise the availability of the grants
  • Review the grants for eligibility and purpose
  • Conduct interviews and site visits
  • Prepare summaries and a ballot of possible grants to be awarded
  • Send grant information and ballot to all members for voting
  • Notify grant recipients upon receiving the returned ballots

You are invited to join the Burke Women's Fund to inspire, educate and encourage women to effect change in Burke County through philanthropy.
